Bakeman Cemetery, named for the family which deeded the land, is also known as Mays Corner Cemetery. It is located about 4 miles west of Peshtigo on Town Hall Road (originally Mays Corners Road) & Church Road.

The cemetery was in Oconto County at the time of the Peshtigo Fire on Sunday, October 8, 1871. It is now Marinette County. The cemetery l& was donated by members of the Bakeman Family before the fire.

This transcription includes those deaths from the 1871 fire. Immediately after the fire, there was an urgent need for places to immediately bury the overwhelming number of victims, whether they could be identified or not. The cemetery also includes many old Oconto County families.
