EAGLE RIVER GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Eagle River Genealogical Society was organized in June of 2005. The purpose of the society is to provide meetings and programs of genealogical interest, provide instruction in genealogical procedures and collect, preserve, and disseminate genealogical data found in the Eagle River/Vilas County area and or relative to the people of the area. The purpose as a society is “Providing you with the tools to discover your Roots and link you to your Family Tree”, and a place for you to meet other genealogist and attend programs and workshops of genealogical interest; to provide instruction in genealogical procedures; and to collect, preserve, and disseminate genealogical data relative to the people of this area.

Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16, with an interest in genealogy, which applies for membership and tenders the necessary dues. An individual membership is 10.00 per calendar year. Family memberships are open to two or more individuals residing at the same address. Dues are $20.00 per calendar year.

NEW SCHEDULE: the Society will meet on the first Monday of each month from 4:30 to 6:30pm, in the Eagle Room at the Walter E. Olson Library in Eagle River. Meeting notices are emailed a week prior to a meeting. New members are always welcome.

LAKELAND AREA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

LAGS is a group of local genealogists who have varying interests and degrees of experience in researching their family histories. The society meets once a month for a brief business meeting, and educational program and to help members with their research. Meetings are normally held at the Minocqua Library on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 1:30 except for the months of July when a picnic is held at an area park, in August we take a field trip to a area museum and December there is a Christmas Luncheon at a local resturant.

Membership dues are $15.00 for individuals, families, or organizations, and include a quarterly newsletter, which is an email newsletter. The membership year extends from April 1 through March 31.

The club has published "The Lakeland Area Cemetery Tombstone Inventory"; "Birth, Marriage & Death Indexes for The Times & Minocqua Times 1891-1926; and the "Birth, Marriage, Death and Miscellaneous Indexes for the Lakeland Times 1927-1949". These books are 'out of print'. For lookups contact the society by email. Currently the club is working on indexing the next decade of the newspaper.

NORTHERN WATERS GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

The Northern Waters Genealogical Society meets the first Tuesday of each month, rotating between the libraries of Presque Isle, Bolder Junction, and Manitowish Waters. From November through April, we meet from 3:00-5:00 pm.. May through October, the meeting is from 7:00-9:00 pm. We are made up of a diverse group which includes those just beginning genealogy research as well as more experienced family historians. We have a different topic each month, based on input from members indicating their areas of interest. Speakers are made up of individual members, members from neighboring genealogical groups, and from other parts of the State.

Meetings are announced in the Lakeland Times, FYI, WRJO, and Wisconsin Public Radio. Also, flyers are placed monthly at all three of the participating libraries. For more information contact: Carol Williams
