Welcome to the Douglas County GenWeb site! If you have an
interest in contributing material to this site or other WIGenWeb
Project sites, please contact Jeannette Harper, the County
Coordinator of the site or the State

 |
 | Please note... Over the next couple of weeks I am going to be 'moving' the Douglas County GenWeb site into a new set of web pages. Though these pages will certainly LOOK different, the contents of the site will remain the same! I am hoping this new look will make researching within Douglas County WI just a bit easier. jmh |

A law enacted February 8, 1854, separated Douglas County
from the larger county of La Pointe. Superior was immediately selected
as the county seat; however, it wasn't incorporated as a city until
1887. This county is named after
US Senator Stephen Douglas. Located in northwest Wisconsin, the county seat
is Superior. The first survey
was done in 1853-54 by George R. Stuntz.

photographs, letters, surveys of cemeteries or any information pertaining
to Douglas County, I'd love to hear from you.) If you decide you want
to volunteer your services, just let me know! This can be as
a look-up volunteer or, someone undertaking the task of transcribing census
reports, cemetery residents or any municipal records...
